POSITION SUMMARY
The Aquaculture Assistant Manager is responsible for assisting in the daily management of the aquaculture facilities. The responsibilities for this position will include the management of employees as well as ensuring the daily duties associated with the operation of growing and harvesting are completed in accordance with the company HACCP and food safety plans. The incumbent will be responsible for overseeing the operation of the aquaculture system. This position will be responsible for all life stages of growth for fish throughout their lifecycle.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
High School Diploma or equivalent, Required.
Bachelor’s degree in aquaculture, biology, fisheries, or related field, Preferred.
Experience: Working knowledge of techniques used for the production, culture, distribution, and transportation of multiple fish and plant species; and general knowledge of building construction/maintenance, electrical, plumbing, and heating trades, Required.
Licenses or Certifications: Driver’s License.

Schedule
On-call with other employees.
Will include many weekends and holidays.

Primary Job Functions
Manage staff’s daily work activities to ensure Good Agricultural Practices are maintained in farm operations in conjunction with daily farm goals.
Troubleshoot, diagnose, and resolve issues within the aquaculture systems.
Implement existing and new practices developed by management.
Feed fish, remove mortalities, and care for aquatic species in the aquaculture facility.
Assist with cleaning, maintenance, and general daily duties associated with the aquaculture systems.
Monitor daily water quality data and use sound judgment to adjust and maintain proper levels for both fish culture.
Perform harvest and processing, in accordance with company Standard Operating Procedures, for head-on-gutted salmon and value add products.
Prepare necessary information and updates regarding system operation and general issues for the Aquaculture Manager.
Record daily process, production and other pertinent information in digital/written form in accordance with company Standard Operating Procedures.
Ensure adequate staffing to meet production needs through scheduling employees and approve/deny time off requests. Maintain time and attendance records for assigned personnel.
Make employment decisions and/or recommendations such as hiring, improvement plans, transfers, promotions, corrective actions, terminations, and pay adjustments.
Ensure training and development of Aquaculture Technicians, as direct reports, to execute tasks following all safety protocols necessary to operating the aquaculture systems.
Assist with data entry and compilation of necessary departmental recordkeeping and data for assessment by the upper management.
Maintain a high degree of communication with all Managers and Aquaculture Technicians to improve overall understating of company goals and direction.
Attend onsite and distant training seminars and classes to bring new ideas and practices to Superior Fresh.
Delegate tasks effectively to proper individuals to ensure workload balance and proper job completion.
Participate in the on-call rotation to ensure full coverage in case a response is needed to maintain operations.
